Description

Delightfully festive Christmas Tree Brownies feature a rich, fudgy chocolate base decorated with green buttercream, candy canes, and colorful sprinkles for holiday celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale

Brownies

  • 200 g unsalted butter
  • 200 g dark chocolate
  • 4 medium eggs
  • 275 g caster sugar
  • 100 g plain flour
  • 50 g cocoa powder
  • 100 g milk chocolate chips
  • 100 g white chocolate chips

Decorations

  • 10 candy canes
  • 100 g unsalted butter
  • 200 g icing sugar
  • Green food colouring
  • Sprinkles
  • Sweets (such as M&M for star)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 180C/160C Fan and line a 9-inch square baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. Melt Chocolate and Butter: Melt together the butter and dark chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a pan of boiling water or in the microwave for 1-2 minutes until melted. Set aside to cool to room temperature.
  3. Whisk Eggs and Sugar: Using an electric whisk or stand mixer, whisk the eggs and caster sugar for a few minutes until pale, mousse-like, and doubled in volume, leaving a trail when the whisk is lifted.
  4. Combine Chocolate Mixture: Gently fold the cooled chocolate mixture into the egg and sugar mixture, taking care not to knock out the air.
  5. Add Dry Ingredients: Sift the cocoa powder and plain flour over the chocolate mix and carefully fold together until just combined without deflating the batter.
  6. Fold in Chocolate Chips: Fold through the milk and white chocolate chips evenly.
  7. Bake Brownies: Pour the batter into the prepared tin and bake in the oven for 30 minutes. Allow brownies to cool completely in the tin.
  8. Cut Brownies into Trees: Once cooled, cut brownies into tree shapes by halving the tray and cutting triangles from each half. Save and enjoy the offcuts.
  9. Prepare Buttercream: Cream together the butter and icing sugar to make buttercream. Add green food colouring until desired shade is achieved.
  10. Decorate Brownies: Transfer the buttercream to a large piping bag with a 2D closed star tip and pipe zigzag lines onto the brownie trees.
  11. Add Decorations: Adorn with bauble sprinkles, sweets, and place a yellow star (M&M) on top of each tree. Insert candy cane sticks into the base of brownies as tree trunks.
  12. Serve and Enjoy: Present your festive Christmas Tree Brownies and enjoy with friends and family!

Notes

  • Snapped the tops off candy canes to use just the straight parts for tree trunks; candy cane offcuts can be used in other treats like Christmas bark.
  • Store brownies in an airtight container for up to one week; they make excellent holiday gifts.
  • Recipe inspired and adapted from BBC Good Food with personal decoration touches.
  • Use quality green food colouring for vibrant buttercream.
  • Using piping bags and a 2D closed star tip ensures neat and festive icing designs.
