Description

Crispy and tangy Air Fryer Fried Dill Pickles are a perfect snack or appetizer, coated in a crunchy panko crust seasoned with paprika and spices, then air fried to golden perfection for a healthier twist on a classic favorite.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 16 pickle spears
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 ½ cup panko bread crumbs
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp pepper
  • grapeseed oil spray (for spraying)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F to ensure even cooking and crispiness. If your model requires preheating, wait until it reaches the desired temperature.
  2. Prepare Coating Bowls: In one bowl, place the all-purpose flour. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk. In a third bowl, combine the panko bread crumbs, paprika, salt, and pepper and stir well.
  3. Dry the Pickles: Use paper towels to pat dry the pickle spears thoroughly to help the coating adhere better and prevent sogginess.
  4. Coat the Pickle Spears: Dip each pickle spear first into the flour, coating evenly, then into the egg mixture, and finally coat thoroughly with the seasoned panko bread crumb mixture. Repeat this process for all pickle spears.
  5. Arrange in Air Fryer: Place coated pickle spears in a single layer inside the air fryer basket. Avoid overcrowding to allow proper air circulation; you may need to cook in batches.
  6. Spray with Oil: Lightly spritz the pickle spears with grapeseed oil spray to promote crispiness during air frying.
  7. First Air Frying: Air fry the pickles at 400°F for 6 minutes to start crisping and cooking them through.
  8. Flip and Continue Cooking: Carefully flip each pickle spear and air fry for an additional 6 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  9. Serve: Remove the fried dill pickles from the air fryer and serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Ensure the pickle spears are well dried to prevent soggy coating and to help the breading stick.
  • You can substitute grapeseed oil spray with another neutral oil spray like canola or avocado oil.
  • For extra crispiness, double coat the pickles by repeating the egg and breadcrumb step.
  • If you don’t have an air fryer, these can be baked in an oven at 425°F for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway.
  • Use kosher dill pickles for the best flavor and crunch.
