Description

The Dirty Snowman is an adult hot chocolate recipe that combines rich hot cocoa, creamy vanilla ice cream, and a mix of luscious liqueurs for a decadent winter treat. Topped with whipped cream and chocolate garnishes, this drink is perfect for cozy evenings or special holiday occasions.

Ingredients

Scale

Rim and Garnish

  • 1 tablespoon chocolate syrup
  • 1 tablespoon chocolate sprinkles
  • Whipped cream, mini chocolate chips, coarse sanding sugar, and/or additional chocolate syrup and chocolate sprinkles for garnish

Main Drink

  • ½ cup vanilla ice cream (1 scoop)
  • ¼ cup Kahlua
  • 1 tablespoon dark creme de cacao liqueur
  • 1 cup hot chocolate

Instructions

  1. Prepare the rim: Place chocolate syrup on a small plate. Turn the glass upside down and dip the rim into the chocolate syrup to coat evenly.
  2. Coat the rim: Immediately dip the syrup-coated rim into a shallow tray of chocolate sprinkles until it is fully coated for a festive touch.
  3. Add ice cream: Place one scoop (½ cup) of vanilla ice cream into the glass or mug, creating the creamy base for the drink.
  4. Pour the liqueurs: Add ¼ cup of Kahlua and 1 tablespoon of dark creme de cacao liqueur directly over the ice cream to blend the flavors.
  5. Fill with hot chocolate: Pour 1 cup of hot chocolate over the ice cream and liqueur mixture to warm the drink and combine all flavors smoothly.
  6. Garnish and serve: Top the drink with whipped cream and garnish with mini chocolate chips, coarse sanding sugar, or additional chocolate syrup and chocolate sprinkles as desired. Serve immediately for best taste.

Notes

  • Prepare the drink just before serving to maintain ice cream texture and warmth of the hot chocolate.
  • The amounts of hot chocolate and liquor can be doubled or tripled and mixed in advance, but add the ice cream scoop to individual glasses just before serving.
  • Feel free to experiment with different liquors such as rum, coconut rum, Bailey’s, or chocolate vodka for different flavor profiles.
  • You may substitute vanilla ice cream with chocolate or a combination to vary the richness of the drink.
  • This is a rich and creamy drink where the liquor taste is noticeable but balanced; adjust the alcohol quantity to your preference if you want a stronger taste.
  • Use a high-quality hot chocolate, such as the Hershey’s cocoa powder recipe, for the best flavor.
