Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 6 tablespoons salted butter
- 16 ounces mini marshmallows, divided
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
Decorations
- 1 ¼ cups holiday M&M's, divided
- ¼ cup holiday sprinkles
- 5 ounces Ghirardelli white chocolate melting wafers, melted (1/2 bag)
Instructions
- Prepare Pan: Line a 9-inch square baking dish with parchment paper and set it aside to ensure easy removal of the treats once set.
- Melt Butter and Marshmallows: In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, add all but 1 cup of the mini marshmallows. Reduce heat to low and stir continuously until the marshmallows are completely melted and smooth.
- Add Vanilla and Cereal: Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Then, add the Rice Krispies cereal along with the remaining 1 cup of mini marshmallows. Gently stir to combine without crushing the cereal.
- Mix in M&M's and Sprinkles: Fold in 1 cup of the holiday M&M's and all the holiday sprinkles carefully to spread the colors and flavors evenly throughout the mixture.
- Press into Pan: Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Using your fingertips, gently press the mixture down evenly until it is completely spread out and well packed, being careful not to press too hard.
- Decorate and Set: Drizzle the melted white chocolate evenly over the top of the treats. Sprinkle the remaining ¼ cup of holiday M&M's and, if desired, an extra pinch of holiday sprinkles over the top for festive decoration.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the treats to set at room temperature for one hour until firm. Once set, cut into squares and serve.
Notes
- Use any variety of holiday M&M’s you prefer, such as milk chocolate or peanut butter, though some may add extra crunch.
- Ensure marshmallows and cereal are fresh for the best texture and taste; stale ingredients result in stale treats.
- Jimmies (small log-shaped sprinkles) are recommended for softness and appearance, though quins (flat circles or shaped sprinkles) also work well. Avoid nonpareils for this recipe.
- Feel free to swap holiday candies and sprinkles to match any holiday or occasion.
- Store treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week or freeze for up to three months.
