Description

This Easy Layered Taco Bake is a delicious and simple Mexican-inspired main course featuring seasoned ground beef, creamy salsa con queso, flour tortillas, and melted Mexican cheese, layered and baked to perfection. Perfect for a flavorful weeknight dinner or casual gathering.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup salsa con queso
  • 3 (8-inch) flour tortillas
  • 2 cups shredded Mexican cheese blend, divided

Instructions

  1. Brown the Ground Beef: In a skillet over medium heat, brown and crumble 1 pound of ground beef until fully cooked. Drain any excess grease to avoid a greasy bake.
  2. Season the Meat: Add 1 packet of taco seasoning and 3/4 cup water to the cooked beef, stirring well. Follow the seasoning packet instructions carefully for best flavor.
  3. Add Salsa Con Queso: Once the meat mixture is ready and the heat is turned off, stir in 1/2 cup salsa con queso thoroughly to combine the flavors.
  4. Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly spray an 8-inch round baking pan or springform pan with nonstick cooking spray.
  5. Assemble Layers: Place one flour tortilla at the bottom of the pan. Spread about one-third of the taco meat mixture over the tortilla, then sprinkle one-third of the shredded cheese blend evenly on top. Repeat this layering process two more times, ending with cheese on top.
  6. Bake the Taco Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the edges of the tortillas are slightly golden brown.
  7. Cool and Serve: Allow the bake to cool for a couple of minutes, then slice into portions. Serve with your favorite toppings such as sour cream, tomatoes, or guacamole for extra flavor.

Notes

  • If the salsa con queso is too spicy, substitute with a mild cheese dip to suit your taste.
  • You can use corn tortillas as a gluten-free alternative but adjust layering carefully as they are more fragile.
  • For added vegetables, consider layering chopped bell peppers or onions with the meat mixture.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated in the oven or microwave.
