Description

A tasty and colorful 7 Layer Dip featuring refried beans, creamy guacamole, seasoned sour cream, salsa, cheese, olives, and green onions, perfect for serving with tortilla chips as a party appetizer or snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Layers

  • 16 ounces refried beans
  • 3 ripe avocados (mashed)
  • 1 lime (juiced)
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon taco seasoning
  • 1 cup salsa
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese (shredded, or Mexican blend)
  • ½ cup black olives (sliced)
  • ½ cup green onions (chopped)

To Serve

  • Tortilla chips (to serve)

Instructions

  1. Spread Beans Layer: Spread refried beans as the first layer evenly in a large serving dish, ideally an 8-inch square glass dish.
  2. Prepare Guacamole: Mash the avocados and mix with lime juice, salt, and pepper to taste. Carefully spread this guacamole layer over the refried beans.
  3. Season Sour Cream: Combine the sour cream with taco seasoning, then spread this mixture over the guacamole layer evenly.
  4. Add Salsa Layer: Carefully spread the salsa over the sour cream layer to maintain distinct layers.
  5. Sprinkle Cheese: Evenly sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese or Mexican cheese blend on top of the salsa.
  6. Add Olives and Onions: Scatter the sliced black olives followed by chopped green onions over the cheese layer for garnish and flavor contrast.
  7. Serve: Serve the layered dip immediately with tortilla chips or chill it for one hour to allow flavors to meld before serving.

Notes

  • Chilling the dip for an hour enhances the flavor fusion, but it can be served immediately if preferred.
  • Feel free to add a cooked, seasoned ground beef or shredded chicken layer for a meatier dip variation.
  • Try different cheese types such as Monterey Jack, pepper jack, or a pre-shredded Mexican cheese blend for different flavor profiles.
  • For a dairy-free alternative, use dairy-free sour cream and cheese substitutes to suit dietary needs.
