Description

This decadent Valentine’s Day Skillet Cookie is a perfect dessert to share. Featuring a buttery, chewy cookie loaded with mini semi-sweet chocolate chips and festive Peanut Butter M&Ms, baked right in a cast iron skillet for a warm, gooey treat that’s perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter softened (2 sticks)
  • 3/4 cup white granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups unbleached flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon table salt
  • 12 oz mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 package holiday M&Ms or Peanut Butter M&Ms (divided; use Peanut Butter M&Ms as preferred)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Skillet: Preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit and generously grease a 12-inch cast iron skillet with butter to prevent sticking.
  2. Cream Butter and Sugars: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, white granulated sugar, and brown sugar using a fork or hand mixer until smooth and well combined.
  3. Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract until the mixture is uniform and fluffy.
  4. Combine Dry Ingredients: Stir in the flour, baking soda, and salt until the dough forms and no dry flour remains.
  5. Add Chocolate and M&Ms: Fold in the mini semi-sweet chocolate chips and half of the holiday or Peanut Butter M&Ms, saving the rest for topping after baking.
  6. Press Dough into Skillet: Transfer the cookie dough to the prepared skillet, pressing evenly to fill the bottom.
  7. Initial Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
  8. Add Remaining M&Ms: Remove the skillet from the oven, sprinkle the remaining M&Ms over the top, pressing them gently into the dough if needed.
  9. Final Bake: Return the skillet to the oven and bake for an additional 8 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and the center is set but still soft.
  10. Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and let the cookie cool in the skillet for 30 to 45 minutes to allow the center to set fully. Serve warm with ice cream for an extra indulgent treat.

Notes

  • If you don’t have a cast iron skillet, use an oven-safe 10-12 inch baking dish with greased sides.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute butter with a vegan butter alternative.
  • Letting the cookie rest after baking is essential for a perfect gooey center and easier slicing.
  • You can swap Peanut Butter M&Ms with regular or holiday-themed M&Ms based on preference.
  • Use a hand mixer for faster creaming, but a fork works fine for small batches.
